Marisa and I Got Kicked Out? (A Week of Snow, Snacks, and Survival)

Winter in Oklahoma has a way of testing your patience. After a record-breaking snowfall, the prairie has been stuck in a deep freeze. This week, the roads remained unplowed, the shelves at Costco were picked clean, and Marisa and I had a date night that nearly ended before it began.

The Great Water Crisis of 2026

Building a life you don’t need to escape from requires a little bit of preparation, but even we were caught off guard this week. When Marisa headed to Costco, she found the water aisles completely empty. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly “normal life” can shift during a storm. I spent part of my week hunting down basic supplies and navigating unplowed four-lane roads just to get to a Dollar General for snacks.

Finding Your Purpose (Even When Snowed In)

While trapped inside, I’ve been diving into Simon Squibb’s new book, What’s Your Dream?.

There was a specific chapter on Purpose that really hit home. Simon argues that without a clear purpose, you lose hope and lose your way. Whether you are running a company with a massive staff or just trying to accomplish a personal dream, purpose is the fuel that keeps you going when things get “cold and dreary.”

“Without a purpose, you have no reason to continue on.”

The “Kicked Out” Incident

We finally ventured out for a Friday night date night at a new Mexican restaurant we’ve been wanting to try. We walked in, ready for a warm meal, and were promptly told there was no room for us. We were essentially “kicked out” before we even sat down!

However, as we were walking back into the snow, the staff came running out. A table had cleared just as we turned our backs. It turned into a great reminder that sometimes, when one door closes (or literally stays shut), you just have to wait a second for the next one to swing open.
